Veterans Day Celebration

It was a special day at Del Norte Rotary last week as we honored our veterans. A talk by veterans advocate and veteran, John Garcia, was inspirational.

John has been recognized numerous times for his outstanding contributions to the veteran community in New Mexico.  Since coming home from Vietnam in 1970, he has dedicated his life to making veterans a priority.  John is the founder of the Veterans Integration Center and he has served on numerous SBA Advisory Boards.  He advocates for both veterans and business owners.

John spoke of the importance of veterans, and the role that Vietnam veterans have had in paving the way for services and appreciation for more recent era veterans.   The Vietnam era veterans' efforts are particularly impactful recently as it is the 40th Anniversary of  Vietnam War Memorial.

58,000 men were killed in Vietnam of which 61% were under the age of 21, and the average age of the soldier was 18.  He highlighted that only 1% of  Americans have put on the uniform to serve their country.

Because of the efforts of Vietnam veterans there is now a common bond and deep respect for veterans who return home to contribute to their communities.  They have created a renewed pride in the flag and their legacy has made a difference to all veterans today.

Dignity…pride…respect…and honor are now bestowed to a greater degree to all veterans primarily because of the efforts of the Vietman Veterans.

Thank you for the decorations, Kathie

Vocational Committee holds Business Open House

The first Business Open House for Del Norte Rotary Members was held Thursday, November 10 at the New Mexico Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.  Thanks to Rotarian Ron Epps, their Director, for opening his offices to us.

The next Open House will be held on December 13th at the Silk Road Connection. It is being hosted by Rotarian and owner, Berdel Boulanger.  Fabulous clothes and jewelry will be available for purchase just in time for the holidays.

Bring a Guest Day

November 30

The Membership Committee has designated our meeting on  November 30  as “Bring A Guest Day”.  The  speaker will be Danielle Casey, the President & CEO of Albuquerque Regional Economic Alliance.  If you know anyone that would like to learn more about creating a prosperous and diverse economy for the Albuquerque Metro area ask them to join us for lunch and this presentation.    Ms. Casey will surely be a great speaker,  and this will be an  excellent opportunity for you to bring a prospective new member to an exciting and educational Rotary meeting.

Celebrate Del Norte's

35th Anniversary

You and your guests are invited to join fellow Rotarians on February 24, 2023 as we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the founding of Del Norte Rotary.  An 80’s style dinner dance at the Sheraton Uptown will begin at 6pm and will include a small silent auction benefiting our Del Norte Rotary Foundation.

This celebration will replace our regular meeting that would have been on Wednesday the 22nd.  Please come dressed in 80’s attire.  Prizes will be given for the best costumes.

RSVP to Executive Secretary, Donette Wagner (secretary5520@gmail.com) by February 18.  The cost is $50 per person, which will replace the normal weekly pre-paid meal cost of $27, and  will include a $20 contribution to our Del Norte Foundation.
