Lobo Development Corporation Moves Toward the Future
At our March 13 Rotary meeting, our speaker was David Campbell, Executive Director of the Lobo Development Corp. With an extensive background including his previous role as Director of Mesa del Sol, David brings a wealth of experience to the table.
David delved into the land development at UNM, under the authority of UNM Regents. He outlined the TIDD (Tax Increment Development District) Development Plan, which highlights general development areas.
David emphasized the impact that UNM has on the community with 1.3 million people attending events at the university or in its facilities. To capitalize on this, there are plans to develop numerous acres around UNM, offering more food and retail establishments for attendees.
David outlined a financial plan involving contributions from the city, county, and state, totaling hundreds of millions of dollars. These funds can be reinvested into UNM programs, benefiting the institution as a whole.
Among the projects discussed was the Celebration Station for Lobo Nation. Plans for the development of the Lomas Corridor as a formal entrance to UNM, including accommodations for hospital visitors, were outlined.
Here's to a future of growth and prosperity!
B Corporations to be Honored at Upcoming Del Norte Event
Our upcoming Del Norte event on Friday, June 28, will shine a spotlight on the transformative work of B Corporations (B Corps) – companies committed to serving both people and the environment on a global scale.
Thanks to a video shared by Alex Lavidge, we gained insight into the significance of B Corps and their rise as a force for good in over 90 countries.
At our June 28 meeting, the Compass Awards will be presented to exemplary organizations. A dedicated committee of local experts has been identifying deserving B Corps, culminating in an award given that evening to one of them.
In a special recognition, our Vocational Committee will also honor an outstanding Albuquerque-based B Corp.
30th Annual Rotary Del Norte Foundation Golf Tournament
Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 1, at 8 am for the 30th Annual Rotary Del Norte Foundation Golf Tournament! We are the proud sponsors of this event, which supports two vital causes, the Veterans Integration Centers (VIC) and the Rotary Del Norte Foundation.
The Rotary Del Norte Foundation was founded as its own 501(c)3 Corporation shortly after the Club’s formation in 1988, for the purpose of helping the needy and underserved individuals and organizations of New Mexico.
The VIC is dedicated to empowering veterans and their families by providing them with stable housing, financial security, and a renewed sense of community. Currently, the VIC is in the process of constructing a new facility to better serve the needs of veterans and their families.
We extend our gratitude to our sponsors, Rich Ford and Peak Family Dentistry.
Join us at the Santa Ana Golf Club, located at 288 Prairie Star Rd., Santa Ana Pueblo, NM.
We are seeking hole sponsors and volunteers to help make this event a success. To volunteer or inquire about sponsorship opportunities, please contact Chairman, Mike Skolnick.

Lessons Learned From a Professional Fundraiser
Lynn Trojahn, Founder & CEO of Thrive Consulting, shared insights into fundraising during her recent Rotary talk. With over four decades of experience, she's raised $210 million for social service and educational organizations, including $92 million for 58 nonprofits in New Mexico.
Since 2016, her consulting company has aided 58 nonprofit organizations in New Mexico, helping them surpass their fundraising goals by over $92 million. Lynn advocates for reframing the term "non-profit" to signify "social profit organizations", emphasizing the positive impact they make.
One of her core philosophies is the importance of inviting people to participate with warmth and sincerity, always selling a vision and a mission rather than simply asking for donations. She stresses the significance of building relationships and gauging individuals' passion for the cause before making any fundraising requests.
Trojahn also highlighted the generosity in the United States, where $500 billion were donated last year. New Mexico shines in regard to giving, ranking second in cities its size by United Way standards.
Trojahn's wisdom and advice underscores the importance of genuine connection and passion in fundraising efforts, reminding us that cultivating relationships and sharing visions are the keys to success in the philanthropic world.
Rotarian Ron Epps Delivers Inspiring Vocational Talk
Ron Epps and his wife relocated to Albuquerque without employment, driven by their affinity for the city. Ron's journey began at Intel Corporation in 2000, where he held various positions, showcasing his adaptability and dedication. Transitioning to community-focused roles, Ron made significant contributions to the Alzheimer's Association before joining the ARC of New Mexico, where he currently champions the rights of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

"Oh, What a Night!"
The March 23 Progressive Dinner was more than just an auction item won at a fundraising event, it was a celebration of camaraderie and Rotary spirit.
Attendees came together to enjoy delicious food while supporting our club and Folds of Honor.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all who participated, whether by attending, donating, or volunteering their time and efforts.
Del Norte Rotarian and District 5520 Executive Secretary, Donette Wagner, recently hosted a special event at her home for Rotary International Major Gifts Director, Eric Thompson.
Major donors from the Albuquerque area were invited for drinks & appetizers prepared by Kathie Williams. Del Norte Rotarians Ruth Ronan and Tom Macek with wife Karen were honored for their contributions to The Rotary Foundation, as Mr Thompson shared all the achievements that their contributions have helped people around the world.
Inez Elementary
Inez Elementary Community School is located at the intersection of Indian School and Pennsylvania. Rachelle Ford, Del Norte Club member, is the Community School Coordinator at Inez, and recently called upon the club for a visit to the school.
During the week of March 11-15, the school community celebrated Science Expo Week. As a science and technology magnet school, this is an important time for the staff, students, and families. Ron Eppes, Maria Montoya Chavez and John Jain came to Inez to visit with students, view their science projects, and evaluated their work.
Throughout the years, Del Norte Rotary members have supported Inez in many ways. A book drive hosted by the Community Service Committee brought several boxes of books to the school. Jacqui Bernstein was a guest speaker at Career Day. Bob Rausch spoke at an all-school assembly about his work as a pilot, while Sandy and grandson Sean volunteered with the school’s food security program. Kathie Williams donated funds to purchase bedding and towels for a family who had moved into a new apartment after being unhoused for a time. Ina Miller supported the purchase of books for our Birthday Club, in which every student receives a brand new book to keep during a special lunch with the principal during their birthday month. Several members have donated gift cards, toys, games, and comfort items for specific students during the holiday seasons. And, of course, many members follow the school’s social media, adding support and “likes” on news and stories.
It is a joy that friendships, grown through Rotary, connect caring folks with a little school in the neighborhood. Along with our work with Manzano Mesa Elementary School’s Backpack Program, it is clear that our club supports students’ physical and educational needs in many ways.
