Congrats Del Norte: Big Award Winner at District

Our club virtually “swept the deck” by capturing a multitude of awards at the 2016 “Anchors Away” District 5520 Conference held in Albuquerque this past weekend. Among the top awards, Del Norte Rotary was one of five big clubs (over 80 members) that captured the Gold Award Presidential Citation from Rotary International. We also captured the District’s Top Attendance Award for big clubs, and the District’s Bob Wooten Award as “The Most Fun Club.”

Del Norte Rotary was also recognized as having the most members registered for the conference. We also had the most members (34) attend the all-club Paul Harris Luncheon on Friday.
Youth was the focus at District Conference

Rotary Blood Drive Next Week, May 10
Del Norte Rotary Club and United Blood Services will host a Rotary Blood Drive Day on Tuesday, May 10, at the Sheraton Uptown Hotel from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The club is inviting all area Rotarians to participate to help Blood Services collect critically-needed blood. Come and enjoy fellowship, snacks and drawings for dinners, a night stay at the Sandia Resort Hotel, and many more prizes. If we have at least 20 donors we will draw that night for a Paul Harris Fellow award for one of the donors or Rotarian who brought them. Everyone who shows up will get a special invitation to the Rotary Del Norte/United Blood Services second annual Bloody Mary Party to be held on Friday, May 20, in the Vintage Room at the Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Avenue SE.
Coming Events & Programs
Our next regular luncheon meeting will be May 11 at Sheraton Uptown Hotel. Our speaker will be Dr. Kevin Washburn, professor of law at UNM, speaking on “The Tribal Renaissance: Indian Tribes Today.”
There will be another UNM Rotaract-Mentorship Reception scheduled for Monday, May 16, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 3644 Thaxton Avenue SE. Join our Rotaractors and Rotarians who currently serve as mentors. If you want to learn more about the Rotaract Mentorship Program, this is a good event to attend.
The next Del Norte Rotary Board meeting will be Tuesday, May 17, in the Uptown Board Room at the Sheraton.
Don’t forget to order your Del Norte Rotary “Service Above Self” T-shirt by May 15. It’s a great way to showcase Rotary during our various community service outings. Cost is just $12.49 per T-shirt. You need to order online at www.customink.com/g/bam0-00ah-tipx. Thanks to Keely Whittington for heading up this project.
Be a gift to others -- here and around the world!
Yours In Rotary,
Edwin S. Hughes, Executive Secretary
