Club Assembly

This will be the first of two Club Assemblies for the 2016-2017 Rotary fiscal year, basically a business meeting in which club leadership discusses their goals and challenges for the coming year. The club will also vote on an amendment to the club by-laws concerning its new Satellite program. APD Officers of the Month will also be honored at this meeting. |

Rotary Del Norte Foundation

Chuck Brown is the president of the Rotary Del Norte Foundation. He will give an update on Foundation business, and introduce representatives from several local non-profits who are beneficiaries of recent Foundation grants. They will be asked to explain what their agency does and how the Foundation grant will be used to further their cause. |

Menaul School in Albuquerque

Lindsey R. Gilbert celebrates 10 years as head of Menaul School, he third longest tenured President/Head in the school's 120-year history. Says Lindsey: "As I lead and manage this great school, much of my motivation comes from a sense of urgency. I want to carry on our great legacy of serving New Mexicans all over the state with excellent, transformative education. We are expanding this legacy to include American students from other states, including international students. Our legacy is and has always been teaching students to "Do well and live well.'" |

Current threats from Infectious Diseases

Dr. Gary L. Simpson, MD, was trained in internal medicine at the Peter Bent Bingham Hospital and in infectious diseases at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford, England, and the Stanford University Medical Center in California. Dr. Simpson currently consults with the Los Alamos National Laboratories in New Mexico and the Scientific Technologies Corporation in Scottsdale, Arizona. Dr. Simpson's interests include the One Health Initiative, emerging infectious diseases and the use of tele-health technology for management of infectious diseases pertaining to public health issues. |

Foster Care in New Mexico

Lisa Burk is an active foster care and adoption advocate currently employed with the New Mexico's Children, Youth & Families Department as a Recruitment Specialist. Lisa is a University of New Mexico Cum Laude graduate with an emphasis in communications and editing. She had three children with three very different adoption stories. Destroying the myths of foster care and adoption are part of her personal mission. |

Himalayan Stove Project

George Basch is an adventurer and philanthropist, who started his Himalayan Stove Project which has distributed more than 3,000 lightweight and clean-burning cook stoves to villages in the Nepal Himalayas since 2010. According to George, four million people world-wide die each year from the effects of household air pollution caused by dirty cook stoves. His organization's slogan is "Changing the World One Clean Cookstove at a Time." |
