Folds of Honor Del Norte Rotary Patriot Dinner

Over 400 patriots attended the September 8, Folds of Honor New Mexico Patriot Dinner.  This is Rotary  Del Norte’s  main fundraising event.   Attendees  at the Isleta Event Center enjoyed dinner,  silent and live auctions and updates on scholarships provided by the Folds to Military and Emergency Services First Responder families.

Over 260 silent auction items were displayed for sale and 10 live auction items were sold.  Rotarian and Folds of Honor New Mexico Head, Jim Quick, announced at our recent meeting that $97,000 was given to the Folds from the event to be used for their current and upcoming Scholarship programs.  Joseph Griego, was the featured speaker.  His children attend Hope Christian School, and are recipients of some of these funds.  He  spoke to us of the impact this has had on his family.

Rotarians participated in planning and executing the event and were in attendance on Sept 8.  At our last Rotary meeting  a check for $27,000 was given to Del Norte Rotary for our work on this project.  Del Norte Rotarian, Fred Bryant, was honored for his leading role in the event, along with fellow Folds of Honor Board Member and Rotarian Sandy Rausch.  Col. Quick  presented flowers to Pat Quick and to  Evelyn Bryant for their tireless work on the event and  to Rotarian Kathie Williams, for her role as Chair of the Fundraising Committee for Del Norte.

Foundation Committee

Attends Bi-District Event

Del Norte  International Foundation Chair, Kim Helm, announced that our club joined with several other Rotary Clubs to pledge money for Global Grants for 4 projects for next year.  Projects included health initiatives, school projects and clean water wells.

October 24 is Rotary International World Polio Day.  Since 1988 Rotary and other organizations have donated millions of dollars toward its eradication. Currently there are only 242 cases of polio world-wide.

IMAGINE ABQ CREATES A UNIVERSAL MISSION

Speaker, Lt. Dave Meyers, Health and Wellness Officer for Albuquerque Fire and Rescue helped create Imagine ABQ by asking friends and neighbors to volunteer on September 30 to help each other and  the community.  Over 2800 volunteers picked up trash and weeds this past year at the event.

Dave inspired us to create a common mission in our community by finding a common enemy.   Dave’s question to us was “ what happens when like-minded people bond together?”   Using examples of how science and faith intersect, he urged us to bond together and show the world what community means. “The universe only knows one direction”, Dave said …”Forward”.  "And that’s the direction we should all be headed. “

It sounds like Mike Skolnick's pizza was a hit with the Satellite members!  It's always great to hear when someone's culinary efforts are appreciated, especially when it supports a cause like our Gala.  It's  also a testament to the quality of Mike's pizza.  Kudos to Mike for his delicious contribution!

Welcome back to Kurt Kinifick and to Tanya McKinney.  Tanya praised Caring Hearts Chair, Steve Becker, who has been such a supportive presence for Tanya during her recent illness. Strong support networks can make a significant difference in someone's life during challenging times.

Maureen Anderson introduced T.K. O'Geary, who spoke about the impact of RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) on her during a recent meeting. The President's Corner
Dear Fellow Rotarians,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits as we step into the second quarter of our fiscal year. It's hard to believe how swiftly time flies, but it's even more heartwarming to see the incredible impact we've made in such a short time.

September was a month of remarkable achievements and meaningful contributions that truly showcased the power of our Rotary Club. The highlight of the month was undoubtedly our Folds of Honor Gala, where we came together as a community with unwavering dedication and compassion. Through your generosity and support, we raised an astounding $126,000 for this noble cause, making a profound difference in the lives of our nation's heroes and their families. Your commitment to our values is nothing short of inspiring, and I couldn't be prouder to be a part of this club.

In addition to our fundraising success, I am thrilled to share that we are expanding our Rotary family. By our next meeting, we will have inducted six new members into our club. These individuals bring fresh perspectives, energy, and a shared commitment to service, further strengthening our ability to make a lasting impact on our community and beyond.

Our social events continue to flourish, creating opportunities for fellowship and connection among our members. This past month, more than 30 of you gathered to support our local team, the New Mexico United, at a thrilling, winning soccer game. These moments of camaraderie remind us of the bonds we share beyond our service projects.

The Manzano Mesa Backpack program remains a shining example of our commitment to those in need. We are currently providing essential nourishment to no less than 50 students every week, ensuring they don't go hungry on the weekends. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to all who have contributed financially and volunteered their time and effort to sustain this crucial initiative.

As we transition into October, let us remember that this is Polio Awareness Month for our club. October 24th is a day recognized around the world for raising awareness about the eradication of polio. I encourage each and every one of you to join us on Wednesday, October 25th, as we come together to celebrate and shed light on this important cause. Let us continue our relentless efforts to make polio history and create a world free of this devastating disease.

In conclusion, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for your unwavering dedication to the Del Norte Rotary Club. Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of countless individuals, both locally and globally. Let us continue to work tirelessly, embodying the Rotary spirit, and I have no doubt that our impact will only grow stronger.

Thank you for being an essential part of this extraordinary journey. I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events and celebrating our achievements together.

Yours in service,

Marty Padilla
